When Francois Blanc established the first casinos in Monte Carlo, he ensured that roulette was given plenty of space on the gaming floors. This helped secure Roulette's place in gaming history, as players from around the world considered Monte Carlo a veritable mecca for gaming.

Since then, the game has become the stuff of legend. British Engineer Joseph Jagger believed that no matter how perfectly made the wheel might appear to be, it must have some kind of bias. With that in mind, he hired six men to observe the outcomes of the roulette wheels at the Beaux-Arts Casino in Monte Carlo. Jagger discovered that one number in particular would come up more often than any of the others and used that to his advantage, winning $450,000 before being caught. He left quietly and never returned, having secured enough to live the rest of his life comfortably.
